In regard to scripture that points to Christ's provision for healing of all types including physical, it says in 1 Peter 2:24 "Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed." When Christ received in his body the punishment for the sins of mankind, the Bible also says he was providing healing for ailments of all kinds suffered by humanity.
In addition to supernatural healing, God also provides healing through natural means.
While Jesus Christ's sacrificial death obtained supernatural healing for mankind, God has also provided healing through other means including physicians and substances on the earth that have healing properties to them. Physicians are people with a special calling to heal people of their ailments through medical practice. One of Jesus' disciples was a physician named "Luke," whom the Bible says was also "beloved" as a disciple of Christ (Colossians 4:14). There are also herbs, vitamins, minerals and other types of nutrients found in natural foods we eat, such as fruits, vegetables, nuts and grains that have healing properties within them, as opposed to junk foods that can have an adverse effect upon our health. Medical studies have shown that a diet rich in these natural, nutritious foods can keep us healthy and living longer lives. Mankind has also learned to process these things into supplements that can aid us in better health. If we believe that God is creator of all things as stated in the Bible, we know that these things were designed to help us remain healthier.
Prayer is the main avenue through which we can receive healing from God.
Prayer is simply the act of communicating our needs, fellowship and appreciation toward God. When we are in need of healing, we can simply request it from God in faith and believe him to act according to his will in providing it for us. While Christians can do this on their own, as individuals, they can also ask other believers in Christ to help them pray for their healing. James 5:14-16 says, "Is any sick among you? Let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he has committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much." (KJV)
God has a timing and wisdom in how he heals people.
While God's ultimate will is to heal everyone in need of healing, he also has timing and wisdom involved in providing that healing. In regard to his wisdom, God for example may not heal someone who becomes ill due to abusive life practices because once healed, they might continue to practice those things that can also negatively affect them spiritually. While he may wish to see them healed, he also cannot place a stamp of approval on a lifestyle that is unhealthy for them both physically and spiritually. In regard to timing, God may see that a person suffering a certain disease can better relate to others who have the same disease and so will delay their healing while allowing them to minister their personal experience to others who suffer. The Apostle Paul suffered some type of physical problem that he sought God's healing from but it was not immediately granted to him. II Corinthians 12:7-10 says, "To keep me from becoming conceited because of these surpassingly great revelations, there was given me a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong." (NIV)
While we know healing is a provision God has made for us through Christ, we also must trust God to heal us according to his own timing and wisdom.
